Sustaining Positive Family Involvement

ABSTRACT:

Learn how a partnership between a resident, their family, and nursing home staff leads to sustained positive family involvement and a richer culture and community. Content of this course builds on the foundation set forth in the course Fostering Positive Family Involvement.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to:

  1. Recognize the value of and understand how to support the family’s many roles within the nursing home.
  2. Understand the stages of adjustment of residents and their families.
  3. Learn how staff preparation supports families and ultimately results in sustaining of their positive involvement in the nursing home community.
  4. Discover how active family involvement within the nursing home setting results from integration of culture change values into the home’s protocols.
  5. Understand that the intent of federal regulations F240 Quality of Life, F243 and 244 Participation in Resident and Family Groups, and F279 and 280 Comprehensive Care Planning is met when we create a culture of family centered care.
